(also, the racial dynamics of slavery in these countries is not so simplistic.)

This is in the D.C. metro. I’d have given anything to see this guy get lost and take the Green Line into Southeast. I’m sure the “Blacks” there would’ve loved meeting this guy.

noooooo words

“eleanor put your boots on” would have been more appropriately titled using my name instead

so last night I tried to parallel park (uphill, as luck would obviously have it) on Wisconsin Avenue, only to realize midway through that I was actually attempting to back into a large pile of ice / snow / unidentified wintry mix (which I can only assume is why the space was available in the first place).

I got out to investigate the situation and decided it might be worth it to push the snow aside with the lacrosse and field hockey sticks I had stored in my trunk (yeah I don’t really know either).

Needless to say, that failed more miserably than I can describe, at which point I left the would-be space, resigned myself to a side street, and was left to tiptoe through Glover Park back to my destination in flats.

Why was I wearing flats? oh yes, because I am still in such denial about the weather,  hence it should be abundantly clear to you by now that I have not yet learned anything about appropriate attire.

I am not meant to live in the cold

texas tomorrow

That Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service is only getting more and more real as the day goes on. They are now predicting, without even a hint of humor, that between 10 and 20 inches of snow could accumulate between midnight tonight and 6 a.m. on Sunday. That’s well over a foot of snow, for folks keeping track at home. Just how flinty do you think we have to be to take this one in stride? The heaviest snowfall is expected between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, and now, just to add a little more danger into the mix, the Capital Weather Gang is also warning residents to keep an eye out for ‘thundersnow.’ That’s a real thing, apparently. Where it’s snowing and also thundering at the same time. We can only assume it’s then followed by the literal hand of God reaching down from the sky to punish us for our wicked, wicked ways. Bundle up, District. (via Snow Update: 10 to 20 Inches, ‘Thundersnow’ Now Possible - DCist

spotted: just another WMATA employee hanging out on the metro tracks.  You know how it goes.  Train coming in 1 minute.

Georgetown Cupcake, is moving. Don’t worry, it’s not going far—just around the corner to 3301 M Street, Northwest.  And they’re giving away free cupcakes tomorrow, December 15, 10am to 9pm.
I may or may not plan my running route tomorrow to end up right at 3301 M Street, NW… for a free cupcake.

running past this tomorrow, definitely
